What type of Windows Vista should I buy? I'm kind of new to Windows Vista. I've been hearing a lot lately about different types of Windows Vista, for example Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows Vista Home Premier and Windows Vista Business. I going to buy a new computer in a few weeks and I have no idea of what type of Windows Vista operating system I am going to buy. Can someone out there tell me the difference between the different types of Windows Vistas I listed above. Thank you for your help! PS: Don't answer this question if you are a smart -ass and wish to criticise my utter lack of knowledge in this area.

How do I set up a network between a Windows XP desktop & a Windows Vista Basic notebook? I can access the internet through both computers but I can't access one computer from the other. They don't show up on the other computer. The desktop running XP is wired through a wireless router. The notebook running Vista Basic uses a wireless connection. The help I've read seems to apply only if both computers are using the same edition of Windows. I might be missing the obvious step here so could someone please point it out for me? BTW, the notebook picked up the router and set up a network for internet access immediately. The desktop had to be reset before it picked everything up. The router is a dlink. ISP is road runner with time warner if that makes a difference. Thanks a lot for any assistance.

How do you know if your windows vista can be on two computers? I've been searching and reading about Windows Vista, if it can be installed and activated on more than one computer. Apparently there are some types that does allow you to, how do you know if you have on of those types? I realize if you have two production keys, but mine is Windows Vista Business. And for example; it shows the production key, but under it, it has 8 more letters/numbers. So, would it be you filling those last 8 numbers in then? And then you can have it on two computers?

Will MS Office XP run on Windows Vista? I want to purchase a new system running windows vista, but I want to migrate my office XP to the Vista system. Basically I want to make sure it will run properly.
Does Windows Vista prevent you from "moving" you whole system to a bigger Hard Drive like Windows XP did? I know that Windows XP has got this funky drive dimension thing, where you can only replicate Windows XP from your current hard drive onto a hard drive with the exact same dimensions (i.e., the same exact hard drive model). I plan to buy a new computer with Windows Vista w/in the next month (will dual-boot with Fedora, to all you mumblers!), but unfortunately the hard drive that I want - Seagate with hardware encryption - doesn't get released for another 6-9+ months. When it comes out, I want to migrate my hard drive contents - Windows Vista and all, exactly how installed - from the OEM hard drive to this new Seagate Hard Drive. So, does Windows Vista allow me to switch to a bigger or different hard drive easily, unlike that stupid Windows XP constraint? Is it possible at all - like maybe some verification, program, etc? Or, do they make it impossible? Thanks!! Just to clarify, I did try using Norton Ghost on my old Hard Drive, and that never worked; it didn't even deactivate - it didn't boot up at all. When I reinstalled over the boot sector, it booted, but ran into errors. I'm looking for a "seamless" move. If it's just about re-activating, I'm not too worried about that...I just want to be *able* to move it over and have it fully function technically! Thanks ;)
Windows 98 doubt !? When we right click on the windows 98 desk top, we get a menu, in which "LINE UP ICONS" is one of the items. But when we click on that, nothing happens. Why is it so ? (I Know most of the people would have migrated to windows xp/ windows vista, but still this doubt has been in my mind for the past several years ) !
How to sync up Outlook 2003 Notes with Windows Mobile 6? My notes are in Outlook 2003 on Windows Vista. I am trying to sync up the notes with HTC Dash (from TMobile) running Windows Mobile 6. Calendar, Contacts sync up fine but there appears to be no sync option for notes. Please note that I am not using the default Calendar, Contacts or Notes program shipped w Vista. That info is in Outlook 2003 migrated from Palm desktop. Also I am using default Sync facility shipped with Vista. Manually migrating the nodes into some other format is hard. Please suggest a way. Thanks a lot. Homeowner_ne
Buy a full, non-OEM version of Windows XP Professional x64? I am trying to find a non-oem WIndows XP Professional x64 (64-bit) edition. But on I can only find OEM versions of this operating system! Windows Live Messenger vs. Yahoo Messenger....???? I'm using Windows Vista and I have about one month being on yahoo... however, my plans are to completely migrate from Microsoft and add all my contacts to yahoo, I like being here a lot... however, I've never used Yahoo Messenger only the microsoft things, and I want you to give your opinions about both, Windows Live and Yahoo Messenger, which one is better, if I can add my msn contacts without a problem, if I can see their pictures and all stuff.... Thank to all of you...!!! I know I can have them both, however I don't want to have them both, lol, I just want one of them....
Palm Tungsten T3 not synching on XP desktop; crashes Vista notebook? Got a Palm Tungsten T3 on my XP pc. Been okay for a couple of years, except for a bad USB socket that had me pulling out and plugging in again. It's been acting strange lately, culminating past two days when it absolutely refuses to sync. The PDA screen says trying to connect but no reaction in PC. Moved data and cradle to my notebook Vista PC and twice, it 'crashes' my notebook, 'dumping physical memory' or something after which I have to reboot. So frustrating, after losing years of all my calendar entries last month with Palm not saying anything about it, here's another. Makes me wanna get a Windows mobile. Anybody got a tip? On the pda not on migrating to WinMobile.
Server Migration...? Here's my scenario I have a full fledged windows network The network consists of two Windows 2000 Servers, one functioning as a domain controller, the other as the Intranet/application server The clients on the other hand, run Windows XP Professional, which they have VM's underneath that run Win 2000 and Win Vista (for legacy apps, and vista testing) The clients at the moment arent the issue it's the servers. My servers everyday are seeming more and more out of date. I love windows 2000 server and how streamlined it is, but I'm going to have to let it go eventually especially after support ends I don't feel like migrating to Windows server 2003 nor the newer 2008...yes, the newer versions are nicer and all, but pricing is a problem at the moment--I want linux as a server platform for me. I want a FREE linux distro, one that can handle ease transition from windows, and that can handle my domain controller and file serving needs Anyone have a distro in mind that follows my needs?
Are there any wireless network cards that support wpa2 and 64 bit? I'm looking to get a new wirelss card, and at the same time migrate to vista 64 bit or xp 64 bit (I saw huge improvements in speed in the windows' environment when I had it installed before, but my netcomm wireless card had no drivers). Are there any wireless network cards that support wpa2 and 64 bit vista and xp 64? only needs 54 mbit connection, but 108 would be nice. And 108 is the maximum for my router, so don't bother recommending my one of those 600mbit cards) preferably a PCI connection, but USB if all else fails Any trusted brand (besides netgear*) would be appreciated and it's a shame but D-link have no 64bit drivers *I'v had alot of trouble with netgear routers and cards before, do not want to repeat the experience.
Need help from Linux users!? I'd like to move into Linux due to the epic failure that is Vista (and its price...). I'd like to get some questions answered first though. I'm experienced with computers but not with Linux (I actually built this system). First off, Is it true that on a decent system, Linux handles system resources better then Windows does, increasing performance? What are the downsides to Linux vs. Windows? (I've heard there's alot of redundant driver searching/configuring?) What are the benefits to Linux vs. Windows? (I've heard about performance gains... but how? and what makes linux good?) With all of the versions of Linux out there, what versions should I be looking to download from a gamer's standpoint? (I'd like to play Age of Conan/various other games on this system) What resources would you point me to if I were to migrate over to Linux? Assuming I need Windows for other tasks, Could someone point me in the direction of a simple guide to setting up a dual-boot system?
