To convert a temperature in Fahrenheit to Celsius, 32 degrees need to be subtracted and the result needs to be multiplied with (5/9). What books should I read? One of the books I was thinking about buying was the beginner php book by Andy Harris. I'm making a fan site for a game (if it helps to know it's for RuneScape) and I was wondering what language I should use for things. Some people tell me PHP, others say to use frames (kind of have an idea of what they are), etc. What should I use? I know I'll beusing HTML, but I know there are other languages out there that make making a website easier. Help? Thanks.

Whats the best "serious" programming language to start with? I've played around with Python, JavaScript, and know enough HTML just to be dangerous, but I'd like to really get into more "serious" programming. Is C++ to daunting to learn first? What programming language can submit information into a form on a website and send it? I am making a program with actionscript 2 and zinc, and need to log in to a site with given username and password. The site's send button uses javascript if that makes any difference. My program opens a browser instance so I was thinking Visual Basic might be able to fill in the form mechanically. Or is there some other way? Javascript?PHP?ASP? Hi, I would like to automate some task that involve reading and writing mail (with attachments), using the ftp protocol to transfer files and maybe using the http protocol too. Some scripting languages can make this task much easier than trying to do it in C, languages as php, python, ruby and groovy may reduce the amount of code writen and its complexity a lot. As I've said I would like to automate some tasks, to save some time, but if programming consumes too much time it becomes worthless. I would like it to be free, the IDE and the libraries (if needed), it is for personal use. Which language is the best suited (because of the language itself or available libraries) for these tasks? (it doesn't need to be listed before). Thank you. I would like you to forget about what is more comfortable or familiar for me. I've programmed some small applications in Ada, C/C++, haskell, java, php, prolog and python. And I have programmed just to check them bash, javascript and groovy, among others. I've never written a line of code in ruby though. Nevertheless that doesn't mean that I'm familiar with any of them. What I would like is learn one language that allows me very fast development, for example one line is enough to read a file and print the first word of each line in groovy: new File("name").splitEachLine(' '){println(it[0])} Another example: two lines of haskell are enough to implement qsort: qsort [] = [] qsort (x:xs) = qsort (filter (< x) xs) ++ x : qsort (filter (>= x) xs) The python libraries look good, a programmer doesn't need to know the protocols, using the library is enough. There aren't any libraries like those for groovy or haskell as far as I know, and using sockets would take much longer.

I would like to add a simple web application to my site (http://www.psychresidentonline.com/) that will convert benzodiazepine drug dosages.
