Need help from Linux users!?
I'd like to move into Linux due to the epic failure that is Vista (and its price...). I'd like to get some questions answered first though. I'm experienced with computers but not with Linux (I actually built this system). First off, Is it true that on a decent system, Linux handles system resources better then Windows does, increasing performance? What are the downsides to Linux vs. Windows? (I've heard there's alot of redundant driver searching/configuring?) What are the benefits to Linux vs. Windows? (I've heard about performance gains... but how? and what makes linux good?) With all of the versions of Linux out there, what versions should I be looking to download from a gamer's standpoint? (I'd like to play Age of Conan/various other games on this system) What resources would you point me to if I were to migrate over to Linux? Assuming I need Windows for other tasks, Could someone point me in the direction of a simple guide to setting up a dual-boot system?

- I'm 12 and i built my own system to but that's beside the point to answer your questions it does basically does what Windows xp does it's just much more complicated i think if you want Linux you should put windows xp on there to or at least have xp
- I think you have some pretty poor reasons for switching - and I use and promote linux! Performance is a non-issue. My Ubuntu partitions boot faster and shut down faster than Vista or XP, but I am just as slow typing stuff into Yahoo answers for people who post questions. I have read that OOo loads faster in Windoze, but I don't notice any difference - haven't timed that - I did time Ubuntu vs Vista boot times and Ubuntu is much faster to the desktop. I don't do much if any driver searching - Ubuntu supports my HP pavilion laptop quite nicely thank you. Benefits of Linux - I like having lots of configuration / customization options. I use 4 active desktops - 16 are available. When I started using Linux I thought extra desktops were a non-feature but I use them all the time. I also like learning new things about computers. If you want to play specific games - stick with windoze - most games are not compiled for linux, and wine is not always successful in running windoze apps. There are linux games. The one resourse I would point you to is www.google.com Ask and it will take a while, seek and ye shall find; read, heed, and proceed
- There is this company called Zyxware Technologies, who are fully dedicated to promoting GNU/Linux and Open Source. You can visit the given links to reach them. Why don't you put the same post there? They are really helpful even if you are an armature.
