I started programming with PHP/MySQL about a year ago. I had no prior programming experience so I bout a few books on PHP. Don't give up! I read the books for months and all of a sudden it clicked. It is difficult but stick with it.

You should learn HTML before starting PHP
PHP is actually a great LEARNING language. So, instead of learning another language to learn PHP, learn PHP to learn other languages!
